Specifications and Waste Management Plans - This factsheet provides a model
plan and model specifications for inclusion into a contractor's waste management

Hazardous Waste Minimization Checklist & Assessment Manual for the Building
Construction Industry, California Environmental Protection Agency Department
of Toxic Substances Control, May 1993. This workbook was developed to aid the
construction industry in evaluating its operations in the interest of reducing
the amount of wastes generated. It will guide the contractor through an evaluation
of operations and reduction options using a checklist, tables and rating system.
Worksheets are also provided to assist in determining which options are the

Construction Waste From Disposal To Management - A factsheet for builders
discussing benefits and general methods for reducing, reusing and recycling
C&D waste. This factsheet is an introduction to the builder's field guide
of the same name offered by the NAHB Research Center. Ordering information is

Waste Management Handbook provides a step-by-step discussion of a construction
waste management plan developed and applied by The Homestead Habitat for Humanity
(HHFH) at their Jordan Commons development. The handbook includes details
on the calculation of disposal costs (potential savings), waste composition,
identification and selection of recycling and reuse outlets, on-site training,
material sorting procedures, and more. A must-read for anyone interested in

Gypsum Drywall Management:
Recycling provides an overview of gypsum management on a construction site
and existing and potential markets. This factsheet also offers a glimpse at
regulations governing the processing of gypsum as well as equipment considerations.

Guidelines for the
Recycling of Construction Gypsum On-site - Guidelines as established by
The Gypsum Association. This practice is the recommended practice for gypsum
recycling due to the scale of most residential construction projects. The
Wallboard and Recycling Reuse Options in the State of Vermont - An in-depth
report on the characteristics of gypsum wallboard and market opportunities for

Wood Recycling Directory - Click 'Wood Recovery' in left column, then 'National
Wood Recycling Directory'. This directory was designed to help individuals,
groups, communities, builders, remodelers, and demolition contractors identify
receiving sites for recovered wood. It contains a nationwide listing of over
700 wood residue receiving centers. Search the directory or add a listing from

Wood Waste Best Practices - Focus
is on demolition and landclearing, but provides a number of useful strategies
that could be applied to new construction as well. Contains an especially useful
overview on size reduction equipment (grinding, shredding, chipping) and screening

Asphalt Shingle Management:
Shingle Recycling Org - A comprehensive
overview of asphalt shingles, recycling opportunities and regulatory issues.
The website is intended to assist those interested in asphalt shingle recycling
activities by providing pertinent information and contacts. It includes a discussion
of recycling markets, links to current reports and articles, a list of state
regulatory contacts, and a summary of specific state studies regarding highway

Mercury Product Management:
In Buildings - This site was developed for contractors, owners and managers,
architects, state and local government to provide information that will help
to reduce mercury in buildings and to safely manage existing mercury in buildings.
It includes basic information regarding the hazards of mercury, guidance for
identifying mercury containing devices and developing management and emergency
procedures, regulatory information, identification of specific mercury hazards

and switches, including thermostats, electric lighting, measuring devices and
