Clean Snowmobiles: Acknowledgements
The authors of this topic hub would like to extend a special thanks to all
contributors who helped make this product technically accurate and a credible
resource.
The debate surrounding recreational vehicle use and its environmental impacts
has intensified in the past few years. A unique collaboration of environmental
groups, sports enthusiasts, institutions of higher education and the Society
of Automotive Engineers (SAE) addressed this issue head-on by creating a collegiate
design competition to produce snowmobiles that are cleaner, quieter and more
environmentally friendly without compromising performance. This competition,
the SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge, generated huge interest from the snowmobile
manufacturing industry and the general public and has provided reliable benchmark
data for further research. Research and development of cleaner, quieter snowmobiles
is ongoing. This hub was developed as a primer for service providers and touring
industry personnel to update their knowledge of the issues.
