Construction Science Education: Table of Contents

Welcome to the Construction Science Education Topic Hub™, a guide to basic information with links to additional on-line resources.

Background and Overview - This topic hub is for students and teachers who want to learn about high performance home building. Other terms for this include green home building, sustainable home building, and resource efficient home building. The hub includes links to some of the best educational resources available, resources that can be incorporated into classroom work, student-built homes, research, and preparing students to enter the green home building marketplace. Its resources can help teachers and students gain a competitive advantage in the rapidly changing and growing green home building industry.

Industry & Trade - This subsection references professional trade associations connected to the building industry, many of which have student chapters. The resources in this subsection also include building competitions, intern programs, and potential job sources.

Project Resources - This subsection has links to educational resources on a variety of green building topics from outstanding sources. Most resources are specifically designed for teacher use in the classroom or for hands-on projects.

Renewable Technologies - Highlights development of renewable technologies and products suitable for building, as well as some of the promiment organizations behind their development. It supplements the curriculum subsection with specific resources that offer students an understanding of how to how to apply renewable energies to the homes they build using the whole house design concept.

Whole House Design - The Whole House Design concept is a cornerstone of high performance home building. This section briefly reviews the major parts of the whole. Links refine the concept and how to adapt it to different situations.

Where to go for Help - This section lists regional and national service providers that offer specialized and general assistance to teachers and students about green building.
